Grandparent Scam – Video 18 – Most Popular Internet Scams

This is a nerve wracking scam. Usually elder folks will get a frantic phone call from what appears to be their grandson, or nephew saying they’ve been arrested and need money to bail them out. The phone is then handed off to another person who claims to be the arresting officer. He asks for the elderly’s credit card for the bail money, and if they don’t have one, they’ll send a courier over to pick up the money. Once the grandparent speaks to the grandson or nephew, the youngster has no idea what the grandparent was talking about and that he’s fine. So a trick is to ask the caller a question that only the grandchild would know.
